The hot, sultry weather in Erie for the Independence Day holiday ensured that big crowds would take advantage of the sandy beaches and cool water temps at Presque Isle State Park Wednesday.
The midweek position of the holiday was not a hindrance to the 36,226 people who visited the Peninsula, according to park officials.
