The making of a radio station

Construction of the WZTE 1530 antenna

A project that was envisioned almost 20 years ago is heading for the home stretch…but its not there yet.

Almost two years ago the owners of WCTL reached an agreement to buy 1530 AM from a local university, get approval from the federal government to move the station to Union City and then raise the funds, acquire the equipment, and begin the construction of the new facility. Meanwhile, our region decided to make a run for the all-time seasonal snowfall record for large cities in the US. Needless to say, there was much more shoveling and snow blowing than radio station construction for months after our amazing Christmas week snowfall and extended winter season.

Now the finish line is in sight, with a “new-to-us” AM transmitter on a truck heading our way and the programming and promotional tasks moving forward. We are hoping that launch of our new station is now being counted in weeks not months. Thank you for your patience.
