Members of the UnifiedErie Anti-Violence initiative are cautiously optimistic at the latest violent crime statistics recently released, especially when it comes to the reduction to zero of group-related homicides. Federal prosecutor Marshall Piccinini told Joel Natalie on TalkErie.com Thursday that there are three keys to reducing the incidents of crime by young people.
“We need to be engaging children and preventing them from turning to a life that includes violence. We need to be more readily using data to go after those chronic violent offenders who are engaging in violence, committing crimes on the streets. And then when someone serves their debt to society, and I’m one who will continue to prosecute cases and folks will get sentenced, but when they’re done, we need to make sure that prison isn’t just a revolving door,” Piccinini said.
UnifiedErie uses a data-driven model to reduce violent crime.
