Even as the School District of the City of Erie has submitted its financial oversight report to the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, state legislators warn that bold moves to hold down costs are necessary to sustain the schools. State Senator Dan Laughlin told Joel Natalie on TalkErie.com yesterday that the added money allocated to Erie’s schools isn’t the final solution for the district.
“There was a common misperception in Erie County that that $14 million was like winning the lotto, and that everything was just nothing but sunshine and roses, and its not that way at all. They are going to have their head above water for a couple more years, but if the school board doesn’t make some tough choices, they’re going to be right back where they were,” said Sen. Laughlin.
Laughlin said that citizens should expect no more bailouts from the state.
