Nearly 200 Vietnam War-era veterans gathered at a special event this morning, to receive the community’s thanks for their service.
They heard from U.S. Senator Pat Toomey’s Chief of Staff, Bob DeSousa, himself an Iraq War veteran, say the words many never heard when they returned from serving on foreign shores, “A Grateful Nation Thanks You.”
An emotional ceremony, complete with an honor guard of their peers from Girard American Legion Post 494, and the Star Spangled Banner performed by Girard High School.
Each veterans name was read, and they made their way to the front, where they returned salutes from Col. DeSousa, and received a special pin, a ribbon and proclamation from State Senator Dan Laughlin and State Representative Park Wentling, co-sponsors of the ceremony, while their family members looked on
