Erie, PA – Erie County officials are marking Census Day on Monday, April 1, with the launch of the Erie County Complete Count Committee, a group of key stakeholders representing a broad swath of community sectors and organizations.

Census Day marks the one-year-out milestone from the official start of the decennial census, which will begin on April 1, 2020.

The Erie County Complete Count Committee, which is co-chaired by Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and Erie Mayor Joe Schember, will help spearhead local efforts to educate, engage and count Erie County residents, thus ensuring a full and accurate representation of Erie County’s population. The group will be made up of representatives from a variety of community sectors, including local municipalities, school districts, neighborhood organizations, faith-based organizations, businesses and universities.

Dahlkemper and Schember are in the process of inviting community leaders to be part of the Complete Count Committee, with an introductory session for members of the committee scheduled for April 30.

An accurate 2020 Census count is essential to the future of Erie County, as Census statistics help determine the distribution of hundreds of billions of federal dollars. Census statistics likewise are factored into planning for all manner of community needs, including roads, schools, hospitals, community development block grants and emergency services.
