The City of Erie begins accepting applications to become a Police Officer or Firefighter starting next week, and Wednesday night at 6:30 the City is hosting a Firefighter/Police Career Day at the Booker T. Washington Center, 1720 Holland Street.

Center director Shantel Hilliard told TalkErie.com, the goal is a more diverse force. “The sentiments of the Mayor’s administration is that we need to make the fire and police reflective of our community. That has been a tough thing to do, but we’re very happy and energetic to move in this direction to try to change that tide,” Hilliard said.

Representatives for the city will on hand to answer questions about the benefits of joining the force and how to apply.
