EDINBORO, Pa. – “The Hive,” a mural designed for Edinboro University’s Center for Branding & Strategic Communication, received a “Design Excellence” award at PGH365, the annual design competition and exhibition hosted by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) in Pittsburgh.

Designed by faculty member Brigette Davitt, from Edinboro University’s Art Department, the mural was among just 50 of the 135 professional entries to receive the designation. It was also exhibited at the April 5 show at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburgh.

Davitt is the founding creative director of Edinboro’s Center for Branding & Strategic Communication, which is located on the second floor of the Baron-Forness Library on Edinboro’s main campus. The center is part of theNWPA Innovation Beehive Network, a grant-funded collaboration between Edinboro University, Gannon University, Mercyhurst University, Penn State Behrend and the Erie County Public Library that focuses on new business growth and business expansion in Northwest Pennsylvania.

AIGA is the leading professional association for design professionals. AIGA Pittsburgh’s competition was juried by Sucha Becky, creative director at Design Army in Washington, D.C., Jason Kernevich, co-founder of The Heads of State in Philadelphia, and Joseph Carter Brown, web strategist and DevSigner (developer with design background) at Charles Street Research and president of AIGA’s Baltimore chapter.
