Congressman Mike Kelly tells TalkErie.com, that he’s enthusiastic about the federal Opportunity Zones tax incentives built into the 2017 Tax Law. He says that officials from Erie’s Flagship Opportunity Zones are making a big impact in Washington.
Kelly, who represents Erie County as part of Pennsylvania’s 16th congressional district, says that the opportunity zones provide a game-changer for those low-income areas in Western Pennsylvania, that haven’t seen investment in a long time.
“We’re changing the landscape of America by doing these things through tax policy that encourages private investment. Those are not dollars that are coming out of hard-working American taxpayers’ pockets, these are dollars that are coming out of private investors who are saying ‘I’m willing to put my money out there’,” Kelly said.
