Two years ago, Erie County submitted an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to establish a community college. However, the application has not been acted on. Meanwhile, County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper’s administration, entered into negotiations with the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College to expand its scope, in what County Council member Carl Anderson told TalkErie.com could be a collaboration to reach similar educational outcomes.

One feature that county officials insist on, is a dedicated building.

“We’re talking about a bricks-and-mortar, campus-type presence that can be expanded, that looks and feels like a community college campus, so the students who attend there believe that they are there for educational purposes,” Anderson said.

The financial investment required from county taxpayers, if any, is yet to be determined.
