The one-day online philanthropy event called Erie Gives broke another record. A total of $5,539,751 dollars were raised from over 8,900 donors. That’s an increase of $1.1 million over the 2018 total. The support of the hundreds of local nonprofits who are participating has grown over the years, according to Erie Community Foundation President Mike Batchelor.
“One of the things that’s really interesting is that in the first hour today (Tuesday), we raised more than what we did in twelve hours in 2011,” Bachelor said.
Hamot Health Foundation received the greatest number of donations, at 680, as they pledged to redirect all gifts toward helping the families of the victims of the daycare fire as well as first responders, raising over $54,000 Tuesday.
