In town for the Erie Homecoming 2019, US Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson announced a new package of federal grants, to remediate lead in older homes.

“HUD is awarding $27.8 million to 38 public housing agencies in 25 states that are identified to reduce lead-based paint hazards,” Carson said.

$1 million of that money will go to the Housing Authority of the City of Erie. Officials at the Housing Authority say that the new HUD money, will allow them to actually remove the lead from their older housing stock.
