Tuesday, $5.5 million were given to almost 400 non-profits, at the Erie Gives check presentation day at the Erie Zoo. The annual one day fundraiser on August 13th broke all records, including well over 650 donors giving to the Hamot Health Foundation, who pledged their Erie Gives income to support the families of the victims, of the West Erie daycare care fire, and for first responders.

Foundation president Boo Hagerty told TalkErie.com, that he was overwhelmed by the community response.

“When nearly 700 people in the community reach out to want to help the families who are the victims of this tragic fire we had a couple of weeks ago, it was really moving. I can tell you in meeting with families thus far, this outpouring of love is helping them heal,” Hagerty said.
