With most children back to school this week, and the 11,000 students in Erie’s Public Schools heading to class this coming Tuesday, it’s a time of new beginnings for many parents.
For those who have a child going to a new school, it can be a time full of anxiety. But family counselor Connie Osiecki told Joel Natalie on TalkErie.com that the best thing a parent can do, is trust that young one to their teacher, and walk away.
“They hurt the child, by being afraid, and (saying things) like ‘Are you ok? Are you sure? You know Mommy can stay for an extra half-hour.’ No, honey. Kiss them and say ‘Teacher, go get ‘em,'” Osiecki said.
