Creating a safe sleep environment for a baby is important for a little one’s livelihood. The key is making sure the child is sleeping in their crib or bassinet on their back without any blankets or padding that could cause them to suffer a lack of oxygen.

Emily Clark of Magee-Women’s hospital at UPMC Hamot told TalkErie.com that they caution parents and grandparents not to co-sleep with babies, to protect the child from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS.

“Unfortunately, it’s easy to fall asleep with the baby on your chest or in the recliner and that is where most of the SIDS deaths take place,” Clark said.
