Medical examiner updates cause of death of Cambridge Springs-native policeman

The Montgomery County, MD Department of Police issued the following statement Tuesday regarding the cause of death of Officer Thomas J. Bomba, a native of Cambridge Springs, PA:

On October 14, 2019, Officer Thomas J. Bomba was found shot on the top level of a parking garage located at Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street in Silver Spring.  Officer Bomba was transported to the Washington Hospital Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Today, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the District of Columbia has ruled Officer Bomba’s death as the result of a self-inflicted injury.

Officer Bomba was wearing his body-worn camera, but it had not been activated.  We continue to evaluate evidence collected at the scene as part of our commitment to completing a thorough and exhaustive investigation.

The outpouring of support from the community has been greatly appreciated during this trying time.
