This month the Dahlkemper administration presented County Council with its proposed 2020 budget. The $457 million spending plan, includes a 1/4 mill tax increase to cover an additional six million dollars in spending. County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper told TalkErie.com the reason why.

“There are basically three drivers this year in terms of that amount of money that the budget has increased by, and one of them is pension, one is health-care, and the last is payroll,” Dahlkemper said.

Dahlkemper cited state mandates in additional staffing in the Office of Children and Youth, an 11% increase in health care costs, and, due to market volatility, a 43% increase in pension costs.
