Mark Alexa of Community Shelter Services (r) speaks to Joel Natalie, Nov. 11, 2019. Video frame grab by TalkErie.com.

We began the week covering the new direction the United Way of Erie County is taking when it comes to emergency funding and help for those in poverty. Bill Jackson, the President of the United Way of Erie County explained the new funding priorities. Then we heard from an agency that will be majorly affected by the changes. Mark Alexa of Community Shelter Services explained their role in helping to house and care for the homeless, and how the six-figure loss of funding will most assuredly mean a decrease in services that his agency offers.
