Erie, PA – Erie County Council passed a no tax increase budget for 2020 this evening. Council fought the .25 mill tax increase proposed by County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper for 2020 and instead utilized $3,375,261 from the $32 million dollar County Fund Balance.

Council Finance Chairman Carl Anderson III: “My County Council colleagues and I unanimously decided that the taxpayers of Erie County have had enough increases in their property tax bills, and this year held the line and passed a no tax increase budget. Although the .25 Mills presented by County Executive Dahlkemper in her preliminary budget may not have been extreme, there is no question that Council in the end made a decision to stay firm on the mileage rate. They were comfortable enough with the Fund Balance and took funds from that source, rather than the taxpayer. Furthermore, this was during a year when the County negotiated all labor contracts, brought the Sheriff Department, and Attorneys in the Public Defender’s Office and District Attorney Office in line with the present marketplace. It was not an easy task, but working together and with our staff and financial advisor CPA Joseph Maloney, we were able to accomplish this task.”

The 2020 Erie County Budget totals $455,659,667.
