Erie, PA, January 3, 2020 – Beginning on January 16th, the Erie Downtown Development Corporation (“EDDC”) is hosting Flagship City Curling League, Erie’s first curling league, on the former McDonald’s site at 5th and State Streets.

“While property development is the primary mission of the EDDC, we’re committed to creating a vibrant downtown – 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Since construction on the former McDonald’s site is not scheduled until late 2020, the EDDC team wanted to find a fun way to activate the space in the short-term. The Flagship City Curling League is a great opportunity for Erie-ites to bundle up, get outside and embrace the winter season,” explained EDDC VP of Community Engagement & Social Impact, Nicole Reitzell.

Flagship City Curling League (“FCCL”) will begin play on January 16th.  Teams of 4 will play every Thursday evening for a total of 8 weeks, culminating in a championship tournament.  Games are held on synthetic rinks, rather than ice, so participants will be able to play regardless of the weather or temperature. The FCCL Commissioner will coordinate the timing of games, rankings, and week-to-week league operations.

The league is open to the public.  No prior curling experience is required.  Individuals or teams interested in signing up to play can do so, starting January 8th, at www.flagshipcityevents.com.

League and team sponsorships are available. For more information on sponsorship opportunities, contact EDDC VP of Community Engagement & Social Impact, Nicole Reitzell, at Nicole.Reitzell@ErieDDC.org.
