Erie Mayor Joe Schember has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, he announced during his weekly news conference this morning.
Schember said his doctor caught the small amount of cancer early following a test, and he will undergo a procedure involving radiation. He said It should not interrupt his ability to do his job. Schember said he wanted to share the news to encourage other men to get prostate cancer screenings. He was sworn-in as mayor in January 2018.
