Erie, PA – County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper, representatives from the Erie County departments of health and public safety, President Judge John J. Trucilla, Mayor Joseph Schember and representatives from Allegheny Health Network, UPMC Hamot, and LECOM held a news conference and confirmed that no known cases of the COVID-19 pandemic have been identified in Erie County to date.
The public is advised to take every precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into Erie County. Precautions include taking these steps:
- Wash hands frequently.
- Maintain social distancing – three to six feet away from people.
- Decline to shake hands.
- Avoid touching your face.
- If you experience symptoms – cough, fever of 100.4 and above, shortness of breath – use telemedicine or call your physician before showing up.
- If you do not have insurance, call 1-877-PA-HEALTH for assistance.
In addition, Gov. Wolf today recommended postponing or canceling any event in Pennsylvania that expects more than 250 people. At this time in Erie County, it is up to the discretion of event organizers to make those decisions.
“We continue to stand on a unified front here in Erie County and are working diligently with our partners every day to be proactive in planning and preparation for what steps need to be taken if COVID-19 arrives in Erie County,” Dahlkemper said.
