County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced that five new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County since yesterday, taking the total to 13.
All are in self-isolation at their homes. Three are in their 20s, one is in their 30s, and one is in their 50s. Contact tracing by Erie County Department of Health has been conducted on all confirmed positive cases so far and continues.
Dahlkemper urged everyone to continue to keep a six-foot distance from one another outside of the home, and to stay at home whenever possible. Washing hands and practicing good personal hygiene are also encouraged.
She reminded everyone of two important things they can do while under the stay-at-home order.
“First, please complete the census at 2020census.gov, by calling 844-330-2020, or by mail,” Dahlkemper said. “Every person counted entitles our community to approximately $2,100 in funding for federal programs every year for the next 10 years. The other thing is to register to vote by mail. Even though the primary has been moved to June 2, registering to vote by mail ensures that your voice can be heard in a safe way.”
Census Day is Wednesday, April 1. Federal programs affected by the census include Medicare, Medicaid, school programs, housing assistance and community development block grant funding.
