County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced one new confirmed positive case of COVID-19 has been reported in Erie County, with 516 total negatives as of early Thursday morning, April 2. The total cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 17.

The individual is in their 80s and is a hospitalized patient who was tested once hospitalized and found to be positive. This case appears to be one linked to travel. Investigations continue, and overall
contact tracing by Erie County Department of Health continues on all open cases.

“This is a perfect reminder that if anyone does have to travel and comes back to Erie County, you should self-quarantine for 14 days,” Dahlkemper said. “Social distancing is the best way to prevent
the spread because the easiest way to spread COVID-19 is from person to person. Think about it as if everyone you come in contact with has COVID-19. They are out there, so act as if everyone has it.”

Erie County’s environmental task force team continues to make field inspections.
