County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced the first COVID-19 related death of an Erie County resident, and seven new positive cases. The total cumulative positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 75, with 1,492 negatives. Forty-four of the 75 total cases have recovered.
The gentleman, in his 80s, had other health complications and was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 29. He passed away last evening at Allegheny Health Network Saint Vincent Hospital. Each patient diagnosed with COVID-19 at Saint Vincent Hospital has his or her own specific team and unit dedicated to his/her care.
“Our deepest sympathy goes out to this gentleman’s family,” Dahlkemper said. “Our hearts and prayers are with you in this very difficult time. Thank you to the caregivers and hospital staff at Saint Vincent Hospital for all of your efforts.”
Six of the new cases are in their 20s, and one is in their 50s. Six of the seven new cases are connected to known positives. Contact tracing continues by Erie County Department of Health.
All seven new cases are located in Zone 1, and can be found on the cumulative cases map by zone at eriecountypa.gov. Data including cumulative cases, active cases, recovered, negatives, deaths, and quarantine and isolation numbers are now available in a new chart on eriecountypa.gov under “Positive Cases” on the COVID-19 page.
“If you have any desire to get back to work and get our economy moving again, it is more important than ever to practice social distancing, good personal hygiene and universal masking to help slow the spread of COVID- 19 in Erie County,” Dahlkemper said. “We want to again express our appreciation to everyone who is doing their part in following the guidelines.”
