County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced a second Erie County resident has passed away due to COVID-19. The woman was in her 70s and had been hospitalized at AHN Saint Vincent Hospital. Four new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County. The total confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 82, with 1,621 negatives. Fifty-three of the 82 total cases have recovered.

One of the new cases is in their 20s, two are in their 30s, and the other case is in their 40s. Contact tracing continues by the Erie County Department of Health. All four of the new cases are located in Zone 1, and can be found on the cumulative cases map by zone at eriecountypa.gov

“The news of a second death within one week here in Erie County speaks to the seriousness of this virus,” Dahlkemper said. “As we look to open more businesses in the future, we must use extreme caution to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please continue to take precautions when you leave your house. Wear your mask, keep your six-foot distance from others outside your home, and wash your hands. If you feel ill, stay at home.”

Today the county also released a video aimed at helping children understand the ABCs and 123s of staying healthy during the pandemic, as well as guidance for speaking to children. In partnership with WQLN, the video can be found on eriecountypa.gov and on the county’s social media channels.

Data including cumulative cases, active cases, recovered, negatives, deaths, and quarantine and isolation numbers are now available in a new chart on eriecountypa.gov under “Positive Cases” on the COVID-19 page. Guidance for masks and for businesses allowed to operate is also available on eriecountypa.gov.
