County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper today announced nine new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County. The total confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County to date is 104, with 2,439 negatives and 79 recovered.

Three of the cases are in their 20s; two are in their 30s; two are in their 40s; one is in their 50s; and one is a teenager. The cases span Erie County with three of the new cases located in Zone 1; two located in Zone 2; one located in Zone 3; and three located in Zone 5. The zones can be found on the cumulative cases map by zone at eriecountypa.gov. Current data can be found on the chart on the “Positive Cases in Erie County” page at eriecountypa.gov. Contact tracing continues by Erie County Department of Health.

Dahlkemper also announced the posting of two per diem positions that will be added to the Erie County Department of Health team specifically to assist during the pandemic. Between the two jobs, 18 people are expected to be hired as public health call center representatives and disease investigators.

“With nine new cases in one day, our contact tracing staff is at its capacity for investigation,” Dahlkemper said. “As the number of cases increases, as does our need for additional resources. These per diem positions are vital to our ability to continue to track and prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

The positions can be found at careers.eriecountypa.gov/job-listings or on the COVID-19 page of eriecountypa.gov.

The County Executive welcomed the presidents from each of the local hospitals who each spoke to the need for county residents to continue to use masks, practice hand-hygiene, and maintain social distancing – especially with businesses reopening as the county moves from the red to yellow phase on Friday, May 8.
