The City of Erie is attempting to get the word out about the danger of fireworks.

This week, local radio and TV stations are airing public service announcements reminding city residents that it is against the law to set off fireworks in public parks or within 150 feet of a structure. To enforce the law, the Erie Police Department has assigned a car to answer fireworks calls. If you are cited, fines can reach $1,000 for violating the noise ordinance.

Residents are also reminded that fireworks can have ill effects on neighbors with autistic children, PTSD, and those with pets.
