Erie County reports 12 new positive cases of COVID-19 for cumulative total of 691

County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and Erie County Department of Health announce 12 new positive cases of COVID-19 and one new death have been reported in Erie County as of 12:01 a.m. on July 8. 

The total cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Erie County is 691, with 539 recovered cases, 137 active cases, 12,664 negatives and 15 deaths.

Of the cumulative cases, 58% are female and 42% are male. The breakdown of cases by race/ethnicity is as follows:

  • 49% White residents 
  • 33% African American/Black residents 
  • 5% Asian residents 
  • 2% Other 
  • 11% Unknown 

Ten percent of the cases are Hispanic, of any race; 76% are not Hispanic; and 14% are unknown. 

The age breakdown of the cumulative cases looks like this:

  • 4% are ages 0-4 
  • 2% are ages 5-9 
  • 5% are ages 10-18 
  • 15% are ages 19-24 
  • 42% are ages 25-49 
  • 19% are ages 50-64 
  • 13% are ages 65 and older 

Note: Percent values of each breakdown may not total 100 due to rounding.

“I know people appreciate the reporting of these stats, and we are hopeful that we will have more robust reporting systems and overall effectiveness in the future,” Dahlkemper said. “I am proud to share that three epidemiologists from the CDC arrived at the Erie County Department of Health this past Monday to assist our local health department. I look forward to sharing the results of their assistance in a few weeks.” 

David George, supervisor of environmental health services at the Erie County Department of Health, joined the County Executive today to provide an update on face coverings, sports activities and the travel quarantine statement from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. 

Consistent with Wednesday updates, the County Executive reminds everyone to complete the 2020 Census. 

Erie County is at 70% completion, and the City of Erie is at 61%. Residents can visit my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to complete the census.
