According to a Facebook post late last night, The Board of Directors of the 2020 Erie County Fair at Wattsburg have decided to not move forward with the planning of the 136th annual fair. The Board said the number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of all fairgoers in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic.
They are planning the annual Queen, Junior Miss, Princess, and Tiny Princess Contests for Sunday August 30th in the Main Grandstands, following CDC guidelines.
Here is the text of the Fair Board’s Facebook post on July 7, 2020:
The Board of Directors has invested a great amount of time and effort in gathering information from expert sources to aid us in reaching a final decision about the fate of the 2020 Erie County Fair at Wattsburg. After much deliberation, we have decided to not move forward with the planning of the 136th annual fair. We fully understand how disappointing this decision will be to everyone in this community, especially to our numerous volunteers, sponsors, and exhibitors that help make this fair possible. Multiple factors played a role in this decision, one being that the Board of Directors’ number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of all fairgoers in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic. Additionally, we have dealt with uncertainty in regard to entertainment, concessions, large gathering restrictions, and volunteer participation. Although we will not be moving forward with the planning of the 2020 fair, the Board of Directors will be following CDC guidelines to hold numerous events throughout the summer. The annual Queen, Jr. Miss, Princess, & Tiny Princess Contest will still be held on Sunday August 30, 2020 at 3PM in the Main Grandstands. We encourage everyone to continue checking our Facebook page for upcoming events. We would like to thank all of you for your continued support and look forward to seeing everyone at the 2021 Erie County Fair at Wattsburg.
