Erie County Council approved eight members of the Erie County Community College Board of Trustees at tonight’s Special Meeting. The appointees approved were:
- Ronald DiNicola, Esquire – District 1 (Kimberly Clear)
- Annette Wagner, MD – District 2 (Andre’ Horton)
- Cheryl Rush Dix – District 3 (Mary Rennie)
- Pastor Charles Mock – District 4 (Carl Anderson III)
- David E. Mitchell – District 6 (Scott Rastetter)
- Tom Benson – District 7 (Ellen Schauerman)
- Katheryn J. Sintal – County Executive Dahlkemper
- Christina M Vogel – County Executive Dahlkemper
Council Chairman Horton said, “This is a monumental day for Erie County. We are making an investment in the future of our children through the establishment of the Erie County Community College–this Board of Trustees is a magnificent first step”. Council Vice Chairman Anderson said, “The contribution of Empower Erie to the establishment of the Erie County Community College has been eloquently acknowledged by the appointment of three members of their board to the College Board of Trustees (Dix, Mock, DiNicola)”
There remains one more appointment to the College Board of Trustees. The appointment of Brenton Davis by Councilman Brian Shank of District 5 failed by a 3-4 vote. Those voting against, (Horton, Rennie, Clear, and Rastetter) took issue with Mr. Davis’ very public opposition to the Community College and some statements about members of Council. Mr. Shank cited the building trade background of Mr. Davis and his willingness to work towards making the College a success. Tonight’s Meeting was recessed; it will reconvene Monday August 31 at 4pm to consider an alternative nominee from Councilman Shank. The appointment of the nine Member Board of Trustees is required with 60 days of the Commonwealth’s acceptance of Erie County’s application. That deadline is September 7, 2020.
