Local businesses in the Edinboro area may be getting a boost this holiday season, if the ECED’s new Community Gift Certificate Program has the desired impact.

Open to any business with a location in the General McLane School District, this new program aims to increase the interest in shopping local within the Edinboro and McKean communities.

“Businesses in our community have had a difficult year,” said Jason Spangenberg, Finance Director for the Borough of Edinboro. “One of the goals of the ECED is to support the needs of the local businesses, and we thought this Gift Certificate Program would be a great way to generate the support they need.”

Business registrations have been open for just a few weeks, and already over 25 businesses have registered for the program, including restaurants, shops, hair salons, and more. “We hope to eventually have every local business in the school district registered,” said Spangenberg.

Customers may now purchase an Edinboro Community Gift Certificate at the Borough of Edinboro office (124 Meadville Street) or online at www.visitedinboropa.com/gift, and redeem the certificate at any business that registers for the program.

“There are so many fantastic local businesses in our community,” Spangenberg continued. “These gift certificates will simplify the process of gifting local.  Gift givers can use this program as a one-stop-shop for their gifting needs, and the recipients will be able to choose from dozens of businesses to support depending on their interests.”

Businesses interested in accepting the gift certificates should contact Jason Spangenberg at jspangenberg@edinboro.net or 814-734-1812 x 123.
