April is recognized as Autism Acceptance Month. The Autism Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania is advocating the name change for the month from Autism Awareness to Autism Acceptance. Executive Director Tish Bartlett talked about this change, and what that means, on the show. We also discussed the impact COVID-19 has had on families dealing with autism. Mitigation efforts such as masking and social distancing can be very confusing and difficult for those with autism. Also the pandemic restricted one of the main therapies for people with autism: socialization, which hasn’t been a part of life for over a year.
