In an updated response and to comply with guidance from the Erie County Department of Health and the CDC, the City of Erie has decided to open all park facilities.

Summer leagues, camps, and recreational programs held within City-owned parks will be permitted under strict guidance from the Erie County Health Department. Residents are encouraged to utilize the parks, mask up, and maintain social distancing.

As a reminder, the following City facilities include:

  • Basketball courts
  • Tennis courts
  • Playground equipment
  • Skate park
  • Picnic areas to include pavilions (open beginning of May)
  • Group exercise in parks
  • Restrooms

“We continue to receive requests from residents to gather in our parks for playing recreational sports, have a picnic, or hold 5k runs.” said Mayor Joe Schember. “It is vital for the health of our community that we all refrain from gathering in large groups to ensure that all community members remain safe while we work toward bringing COVID-19 under control.”

We encourage everyone to continue to stay active and healthy exercise by walking, hiking, biking, or running in City parks.

For the health of our community please maintain six feet of distance from people not in your household. Because people can be contagious but have no symptoms, it is vital for everyone to wear a mask or scarf covering their mouth and nose when it is necessary to go out.
