Penn State Behrend invites area high school juniors to apply to its new free college-prep summer program, LEADS: An Early College Experience.

The LEADS program, which stands for Learn, Explore, Advance, Discover, and Succeed, offers eligible students the opportunity to take a free course for college credit plus participate in field trips, workshops, mentoring programs and other leaning experiences.

In addition to free tuition, LEADS participants receive any necessary textbooks, parking permits and bus passes.

To be eligible for LEADS for summer 2021, students must be high school juniors during the 2020-2021 school year with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and meet any of the following criteria:

  • First-generation college student
  • Member of an underrepresented group
  • Economically disadvantaged students, such as those who qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program
  • Students who may be underrepresented in their planned field of study, such as women interested in STEM fields or men interested in nursing

The deadline to apply to LEADS for summer 2021 is May 7. For an application or more information, visit behrend.psu.edu/leads or contact Behrend’s Office of Admissions at 814-898-6100 or behrend.admissions@psu.edu.

The LEADS program replaces the College Experience for Diverse Students (CEDS) and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) programs.
