Leader of Downtown Church Coordinates Event

Christians from congregations throughout Erie County, and the entire area, gathered at the parking lot at Elevate Church in the Millcreek Mall this afternoon to pray for the nation, the city and its leaders.

The one-hour prayer event happened midway in the 12-hours of continuous Bible reading by teams of volunteers, which began at 6:00 am, and will continue until 6 pm, when a second evening prayer event will take place.

Apostle Anita McCoy, Pastor and Executive Director at Field of Dreams Harvest Ministries, served as emcee for the event. She said, “This year’s theme is ‘Lord, Pour Out Your Love, Life, Liberty,’ from 2 Corinthians 3:17. It’s a powerful declaration from God’s Word, that He is a REWARDER of those who diligently seek Him!” McCoy continued, “I’m excited to be a part of God’s creation that will ask and receive the LOVE,  LIFE and LIBERTY that can only come through God’s Son, Jesus Christ! Get ready Erie to RECEIVE!

Recognizing that prayer has been, and continues to be, an integral part of this nation’s history, the National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress. The Erie Prayer Task Force is the local Judeo-Christian expression of this resolution.  Its goals are to:

  • Foster unity within the Christian Church through unified public prayer
  • Protect America’s Constitutional Freedoms to gather, worship, pray and speak freely
  • Publicize and preserve America’s Christian heritage
  • Encourage prayer, regardless of current issues and positions
  • Respect all people, regardless of denomination or creed
  • Glorify God in word and deed
