Melissa Lyon, director of Erie County Department of Health, will vacate her position on Jan. 3, 2022. She has accepted an appointment by the Board of Health in Delaware County, Pennsylvania to lead its newly formed health department.
Lyon was named director of Erie County Department of Health in 2014. With her more than 20 years of experience in health care, public health and public service, she has led the department with passion, energy, vision, and heart in keeping the community members and environment of Erie County healthy and safe. Erie County Department of Health is grateful for her stewardship and wishes her well in her new endeavor.
“Director Lyon’s knowledge as a public health official has been invaluable to Erie County,” said Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper. “Her dedication to promoting and protecting the health and safety of our community has made her an exemplary leader throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I am grateful to Melissa for the passion and commitment she has brought to the department of health during the 8 years she has served as director.”
Erie County Department of Health remains committed to its aim of preserving, promoting and protecting the health, safety and well-being of the people and the environment in the county. In consultation with the Erie County Board of Health, Deputy Director Erin Mrenak, Community Health Division Director Charlotte Berringer, Health Promotion and Quality Improvement Division Director Nicole Bolash and Environmental Health Division Director Breanna Adams will maintain leadership roles.
