This morning at the Manufacturers and Business Association in west Erie, four candidates for the Republican nomination for US Senate, participated in a candidate forum. Kathy Barnett, Jeff Bartos, Dave McCormick and Mehmet Oz, were questioned by the MBA’s Jezree Friend on topics from energy policy to inflation to the workforce.

Bartos told Talk Erie’s Joel Natalie that he blames the lack of workers on President Biden’s policies.

“There are conservative Democrats, there are independents, and then there are business-focused, growth-focused Republicans. We know what to do, we just have to have the courage to do it, and the Biden administration needs to stop listening to the radical left,” Bartos stressed. “I suspect, after they get shellacked in November, they’re going to have to re-evaluate their failed economic policies.”

Oz told Natalie that what he calls President Biden’s failings have people wishing for a return to policies from the Trump era.

“To go from being energy independent, nearing energy dominance, to begging other countries for support is shameful. That’s just an example of how we mismanaged. Look at Operation Warp Speed. We got a vaccine. In the Biden administration we can’t even make pills to treat COVID,” Oz said.

The May 17th spring primary will pick both a Democrat and Republican nominee who will compete to succeed Senator Pat Toomey in November.
