Shooting at Erie High leaves one wounded

UPDATE AT 12:42 PM: The City of Erie reported that all students and staff have been dismissed from Erie High School. Erie Police have cleared the scene and are releasing it back to the Erie School District. Please follow further updates from Erie’s Public Schools.

UPDATE: At 10:45, Deputy Chief Mike Nolan told local media that Erie Police is sweeping the school for evidence and assisting Erie High to release students in an orderly fashion so they can continue their investigation. Nolan said he can comfortably state that there is no threat at this time.

Earlier, the school district removed the information that a suspect was in custody. A district spokeswomen told GoErie.com that that information was released in error.

Erie’s Public Schools alerted Erie High School families that there was a shooting at Erie High this morning. The alert was posted at 9:41 this morning on the district’s Facebook page. The building is on hard lockdown with a police presence on campus. A person is in custody. The district is coordinating with law enforcement and evacuation by orderly dismissal will begin as soon as the district is cleared to do so by the Erie Bureau of Police. Parents are asked to stay away until instructions are given.

Erie Police confirm that a single individual at Erie High School has been shot. The individual is in good condition and has been transported to the hospital.
