Parris J. Baker, an associate professor at Gannon University, has been named a scholar-in-residence at the Jefferson Educational Society, Jefferson President Ferki Ferati announced today.
Dr. Baker will also become a regular writing contributor to the Jefferson with his new biweekly series titled “Truth in Love,” which begins today and can be found on the Jefferson’s website, www.JESerie.org.
“We’re so excited to welcome Parris to the Jefferson writing team and for the important conversations he’ll help generate in the community as our newest scholar-in-residence,” Dr. Ferati said. “Parris has already been a strong contributor to the Jefferson as a presenter and writer of essays and reports for several years, but his new writing series allows him to express himself even more in his unique way.”
An alumnus of Gannon, Dr. Baker received his graduate degree from Case Western University before earning a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. At Gannon, he is the director of the school’s Social Work, Mortuary Science and Gerontology programs.
He also serves as the Senior Pastor of Believers International Worship Center, Inc. He is married and has five children.
With his new appointment, Dr. Baker joins nine other Jefferson scholars-in-residence: Dr. Judith Lynch, Dr. Andrew Roth, Corrine Egan, Paul Gambill, Dr. David Frew, Dr. Baher Ghosheh, Johnny Johnson, Tom Murphy, and Christine Riehl.
