SUMMER JAM 2022 accepting youth applications

Erie County and the Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) are now accepting applications for youth aged 16-21 to participate in the 2022 Summer Jobs and More (Summer JAM) Program. Fifty-two employers (31 profit and 21 nonprofits) have signed up to participate in the program, which is entering its ninth year.

Interested youth must submit application packets by Friday, June 3, 2022. Applications can be found at https://www.gecac.org/work/employment-and-income/summer-jam.

Participating youth will work for eight weeks, June- August 2022, for an average of 22.5 hours a week. Employer specifications, geographic proximity, and availability of reliable transportation are taken into consideration when matching youth with employers.

Youth Orientation with be the following days/times:

  • Monday, June 13th – Erie/Girard/Harbor Creek area youth: Gannon University 
    • 9:00 AM Arrival/Check-in Time
    • 9:30 AM Start time – 2:30 PM
  • Thursday, June 16th – Corry/Union City area youth: Corry Area High School 
    • 9:00 AM Arrival/Check-in Time
    • 9:30 AM start time – 2:30 PM 

Orientation will feature training, activities, and guest speakers – including representatives from Gannon University, Erie Insurance, and Widget Financial – with a focus on financial literacy, soft skills, how to be successful at the job, and job safety.

“Summer JAM is an impactful and intentional program that provides youth an opportunity to gain job readiness training, career exploration, and employment opportunities in Erie County,” said Marcus Yuille, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer.
