From September 9th to September 18th, 2022, the City of Erie celebrates Welcoming Week 2022.
Erie Mayor Joe Schember says, “Regardless of where we are born or what we look like, we are residents of Erie, united in our efforts to build a better community. We recognize everyone’s contribution in helping foster our vibrant culture and our growing economy. We have this opportunity to come together and build a community where every resident can feel welcome and experience a real sense of belonging..I ask every Erie area resident to join us in making the Erie region to be a place where we all belong.”
Under the theme of “Where we belong”, the City of Erie will hold the following activities during Welcoming Week 2022:
- Friday, September 9: Mayor Schember will read the Welcoming Week 2022 Proclamation during the Welcoming Week 2022 press conference
- Friday, September 16: In collaboration with US Federal Courthouse, the City of Erie will host a citizenship ceremony
- Between September 9-18: The Erie Art Museum will host three events: Second Sundays, Out of Many – Stories of Migrations, and Gallery Night
- Sunday, September 18: Story Circle with One Table

Welcoming Week is an annual campaign and celebration to showcase the movement of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all, including immigrants. Launched in 2012 by Welcoming America and its members, Welcoming Week provides individuals and communities the opportunity to proclaim welcoming values through events and local initiatives that foster mutual understanding between immigrants and non-immigrants, as well as deeper belonging for all.
