Millcreek Township’s Animal Enforcement Officer, Richard Lyall, has resigned from his position effective Sep. 13, 2022.
Township Supervisor, Kim Clear, expressed that with the resignation comes an opportunity for growth.
“Animal management needs examined and made to fit the needs of Millcreek Township. That starts today.” Ms. Clear said.
Ms. Clear stated that Millcreek Township will be working closely with the Erie Humane Society and other animal shelters to provide safe and humane animal service in Millcreek. During the Aug. 23 Supervisor’s Meeting, Millcreek approved a continuing contract with the Humane Society. The contract allows officers 24-hour access into the building and a guarantee to take in any stray animals in Millcreek.
Millcreek Police will continue to respond to animal related calls as the Township evaluates the future of the Animal Enforcement position.
The resignation was agreed upon in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Millcreek Township, AFSCME 3530, and Mr. Lyall. In conjunction with Mr. Lyall resigning his position immediately and willingly, the Township is providing previously accrued benefits, one-month of severance and health coverage until the end of the year.
