On Wednesday evening, November 2, 2022, Tom Bodett, author, humorist, and longtime voice of Motel 6, joined the Jefferson Global Summit 2022 at the Jefferson Educational Society in Erie. Famous for his signoff phrase, “I’m Tom Bodett for Motel 6. And we’ll leave the light on for you,” Bodett has a storied career in public broadcasting.

In his lecture, “The Future of Trade Skills,” Bodett reflected on his experience with Hatchspace, a community woodworking school and workshop in Brattleboro, Vermont. He discussed how other midsize cities like Erie can successfully adopt trade schools. The mission of The Hatch is to promote the value and practice of craft by providing the instruction, tools, and space to support “a community of makers.”
