Erie school district announces board member vacancy

Erie’s Public Schools is currently seeking to fill a vacancy on the Board of School Directors. The term of office will be until December 4, 2023. Under the School Code, to be eligible to be elected or appointed to a Pennsylvania school board, one must be a citizen, at least 18 years old, of good moral character, and a resident of the School District of the City of Erie for at least one year prior to the date of election or appointment. 

Board members serve the community in a volunteer capacity. In addition to attending and participating in a minimum of two monthly meetings, members serve on Board committees and are expected to advocate for all District students.

Deadline for submission is 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023. 

Late applications will not be considered. The Board intends to review and rank all applications. Applicants with the highest ranking from all Board members will be invited to speak at the Regular Board Meeting on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. A vote to appoint the new member will then take place at that meeting. Once Board approved, the successful candidate will be required to file a Statement of Financial Interest and take an oath of office before entering upon their duties on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
