Erie Insurance (ERIE) and a team of 75 ERIE employees donated, packed and distributed 400 bags of food to Pfeiffer-Burleigh School families in Erie’s Public Schools on December 21, just before students leave for the school’s holiday break. The project, now in its sixth year, is coordinated by ERIE’s Pfeiffer-Burleigh special interest group and the company’s Dignity & Respect Affinity Network.
This is the sixth year Erie Insurance has partnered with Pfeiffer-Burleigh for this holiday food bag distribution. School families received a variety of items including cereal, soup, peanut butter, granola bars, pasta, sauce, mac and cheese, bread and various snack items for students as they leave school for the holiday break. The event was created to support unmet food needs while school is not in session that were identified as a priority in the Community School’s action plan.
“Distributing these bags of easily prepared food items, is critical at this time of year. It will help fill students’ homes with healthy options while they are away from school — where many receive free breakfast and lunch,” says Alicia Pelkowski, vice president for customer service at ERIE and co-lead on the project.
Funding and volunteers for the project are provided by Erie Insurance, the United Way of Erie County Community Schools corporate partner at Pfeiffer-Burleigh. Erie Insurance has a long history of valuing education and has directly supported the school for nearly 35 years.
