The City of Erie’s summer recreation guide is now available at City Hall, Erie School District schools, community centers, and online at cityof.erie.pa.us/summerrec. All programs listed in the guide are free to the City of Erie residents and focus on grades K-12, though ages vary for each program.
“Summer is here, and there is no better time to get outside!”, said Erie Mayor Joe Schember. “The City of Erie is home to 45 public parks and greenspaces and we are pleased to announce some exciting new changes for the 2023 release.”
New programs include:
• The City of Erie partnered with The Isle Skate and Surf Shop to bring a skateboarding program to Columbus Park at West 16th and Poplar streets.
• Glow golf will be held at the J.C. Martin Golf Course from June 1 – Sept. 2.
• The City of Erie Public Works department partnered with the Erie Pickleball Association adding pickleball courts at Baldwin Park on West 25th St. and Berst Ave.
Returning programs include:
• Learn to swim programs will again be featured at Rodger Young Park and the Downtown YMCA.
• Working with other law enforcement organizations, Erie Police Department’s youth programs such as the Police Athletic League and the Community Outreach Program, will break down barriers and build positive relationships between the officers and participants.
• The City of Erie Housing Authority (HACE) has developed a comprehensive Youth Development Program from June 12 – Aug. 18. It includes weekly sports and educational mini-camps including the mentor/youth junior golf clinic lessons at J.C. Martin Golf Course, mentor/youth junior learn-to-fish clinic at John Horan Garden apartments and Presque Isle State Park, and the Erie County Public Library bookmobile at Erie Heights, 4026 Garden Ave.
Registration deadlines for summer programs are quickly approaching. City residents are encouraged to review the guide and sign up as soon as possible.
