At Erie City Council’s July 19 meeting, two notable resolutions were passed. Today, Erie Mayor Joe Schember reacted to those resolutions:
LGBTQ+ resolution:
“I support Councilmember Faulkner’s resolution, which does not give any class of people special treatment. Rather, it safeguards the protections they already have and prevents their rights from being violated. I want all people to feel safe, valued, and welcomed in Erie, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, or color of skin. I want everyone to be treated with dignity and celebrated for their unique perspectives, talents, and skills. That’s the kind of community my team and I are trying to create.”
Wabtec resolution:
“I value the right of workers to organize, and I also realize the economic impact that Wabtec Corp., Erie’s largest manufacturer, has on the entire Erie region. I remain hopeful that productive negotiations will continue between Wabtec and Locals 506 and 618 of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America. I support all parties involved in efforts to achieve the common goal of reaching a fair and equitable resolution and a lasting agreement that benefits everyone.”
