FROM A PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE RELEASE, JULY 31, 2023:
On Sunday, July 30, 2023, the Pennsylvania State Police Troop E Major Case Team, at the request of the City of Erie Bureau of Police and under the supervision of the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, investigated an Officer-Involved Shooting involving members of the City of Erie Police Department.
The investigation revealed that; on July 30th, at 0451 hours, members from the Erie City Police Department responded to the 500 block of East 22nd Street, in the City of Erie City, when they were alerted of shots being fired in the area. Upon the officers’ approach to a duplex residence located at 507 /509 East 22nd Street, they observed broken glass from a window and spent rifle casings in the driveway. Erie City Police Officers quickly began to establish a perimeter around the duplex and utilized headlights from their patrol vehicles to illuminate the area while attempting to locate a shooter, victim, or further evidence of a crime being committed. While performing these duties, the Defendant, identified as Patrick GLEBA (a white male, age 27, living at 507 East 22nd St.) began firing an AR-15 style rifle at several uniformed officers. As officers retreated from the residence and gunfire, Sergeant David Stucke was struck by a bullet, causing serious bodily injury and requiring immediate, lifesaving aide – which was provided by fellow officers on-scene. Several other officers on scene returned fire into the residence. Moments later, Mr. GLEBA surrendered to police and was placed under arrest. While being taken into custody, Mr. GLEBA was observed to be wearing a ballistic, bullet-proof vest and had (on his person) a knife and an additional loaded magazine for his rifle. After an interview was conducted with Mr. GLEBA at the State Police barracks in Lawrence Park, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and approved charges. Mr. GLEBA was charged with Attempted Criminal Homicide, Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and several other crimes. He is currently being detained in the Erie County Jail in lieu of $300,000.00 bond.
Sergeant Stucke, a 14-year veteran with the City of Erie Bureau of Police, was struck in the leg and underwent emergency surgery at UPMC Hamot, where he is currently listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Sergeant Stucke is married with 4 children. He’s a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom.
