We are proud to host the next event in Gannon University’s Find Your Voice Speaker Series: Panel Discussion: International Day of Democracy. This event, in honor of International Day of Democracy, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 in Waldron 219.

The event will center on an interactive faculty and student panel discussing various aspects of democracy, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session as well as the opportunity to register to vote and visit interactive tales on a variety of topics related to democracy. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m., with the panel discussion beginning at noon.

The International Day of Democracy was established by the United Nations and has been celebrated annually on Sept. 15 since in 2008. This year’s celebration theme is “Empowering the next generation,” focusing on young people’s critical role in advancing democracy and ensuring that their voices are included in all decisions that impact their world.

“This event is very important for us to celebrate here at Gannon,” said Dr. Anjali Sahay, associate professor and program director of political science at Gannon. “We want to empower our students with the knowledge to understand the threats to democracy and to be engaged and well–educated citizens as they are future leaders who will make meaningful and important decisions.”
